Tire Pressure

Tire inflation pressure is the level of air in the tire that provides it with load-carrying capacity. Tire pressure also affects the overall performance of the vehicle. A tire does not have to be punctured by a foreign object such as a nail to lose air. All tires will naturally lose air over time. It is important to check your vehicle’s tire pressure at least once a month using the recommended PSI number located in the owner’s manual or on the certification label. Vehicle manufacturers recommend checking tire pressure when the tires are cold (have not been driven on for at least three hours) to get an accurate reading. Under and over-inflating tires can both be hazardous. Over-inflating can affect how the vehicle moves. Under-inflating can result in overheating, irregular wear of tread, tire failure, and sometimes loss of control.
